We’re pleased to announce that development has officially begun on a new feature for MyBins that will make it even easier for local authorities to keep residents informed about changes to their waste collection services during holiday periods.
Keeping Residents Informed
Bank holidays, Christmas, New Year, and other seasonal events often result in temporary changes to collection schedules. Until now, communicating these changes has relied on separate announcements or website updates.
Our latest feature is designed to bring this information directly into the householder’s collection calendar.
How It Will Work
Local authority administrators will be able to create one or more service alteration periods by simply selecting the relevant dates.
During these periods:
The affected dates will be clearly highlighted within the householder’s collection calendar.
Residents can click on the highlighted period to view a custom message explaining the temporary service changes.
Messages can include information such as revised collection days, suspended services, or any other important notices, as well as links to council webpages.
Flexible and Easy to Manage
The new system has been designed with flexibility in mind. Administrators will be able to:
Create service alteration periods of any length.
Add as many or as few periods throughout the year as required.
Display bespoke messages for each individual period.
Update or remove periods quickly as service arrangements change.
This means authorities can prepare well in advance for planned holidays while still being able to respond to unexpected disruptions if needed.
A Better Experience for Residents
By integrating service updates directly into the collection calendar, residents won’t need to search for announcements elsewhere. Important information will be available exactly where they expect to find it, helping to reduce confusion, missed collections, and unnecessary enquiries.
Coming Soon
Development is now underway, and we’ll be sharing further updates as the feature progresses. We’re excited to add another practical tool that helps local authorities communicate effectively with residents while keeping waste collection information accurate and easy to access.
