Highlight Temporary Service Changes on the Calendar

Bank holidays, severe weather, industrial action and seasonal changes can all result in temporary alterations to waste collection schedules. Communicating these changes clearly is essential to minimise missed collections and reduce unnecessary enquiries from residents.

Our latest update allows councils to highlight affected periods directly on the collection calendar, ensuring important service information is impossible to miss.

Rather than simply changing collection dates, councils can now create a highlighted alert period that immediately catches residents’ attention. Selecting the highlighted section displays detailed information explaining the service changes, while affected householders can also receive a push notification to ensure they are informed in advance.

The feature is also highly flexible. Councils can choose whether to continue displaying the normal bin collection events alongside the alert notification, giving residents both their scheduled collections and the additional information in one view. Alternatively, if the service changes are significant enough to make the normal collection schedule misleading, councils can hide the standard collection entries for the affected period and display only the alert notification. This ensures residents always see the most relevant information for the situation.

By giving councils complete control over how service disruptions are presented, the MyBins app can be adapted to suit anything from minor one-day changes to major service interruptions.

Typical Uses Include

  • Bank Holiday collection changes
  • Christmas and New Year collection schedules
  • Severe weather disruption
  • Industrial action or strike action
  • Seasonal collection changes
  • Emergency service updates

Whether it’s a planned holiday schedule or an unexpected disruption, this new feature helps councils deliver timely, accurate information while giving residents confidence that they have the latest collection details at their fingertips.
