Keeping residents informed with accurate waste collection information is essential for delivering an effective waste and recycling service. That’s why we’re excited to announce a major new enhancement to the MyBins platform, due for release in September 2026.
The latest update introduces automated collection data integration, giving local authorities new ways to keep their collection schedules up to date while significantly reducing administration.
Flexible Options to Suit Every Council
We understand that every authority manages its waste data differently, so the new release provides multiple methods of updating collection information.
Councils can continue to manually import a CSV file, exactly as they do today, ensuring no changes are required to existing workflows.
For authorities looking to automate the process, MyBins now supports secure SFTP integration. This allows the app to retrieve the latest collection data automatically from a council’s server on a schedule that suits their operation, whether that’s weekly, fortnightly or at another agreed interval.
Need changes to appear immediately? A new “Run Now” option enables administrators to trigger an instant import following service updates, eliminating the need to wait for the next scheduled synchronisation.
Less Administration, More Confidence
One of the biggest benefits of the new API integration is the reduction in administration time.
Instead of manually exporting and uploading collection files, councils can automate the entire process, reducing – or in many cases completely eliminating – the time required to keep the MyBins app updated.
This frees up staff to focus on delivering frontline services rather than maintaining data.
Accurate Information Residents Can Trust
Collection rounds change throughout the year for many reasons, including new developments, route optimisation, seasonal services and operational changes.
By automating data updates, residents always have access to the latest collection information within the MyBins app. This reduces confusion, helps prevent missed presentations and improves confidence that the information shown is accurate.
Providing residents with reliable information also reduces unnecessary enquiries to customer service teams, helping councils improve efficiency while enhancing the customer experience.
Supporting Permit and Subscription Services
The new integration also opens the door for permit-based and subscription collections, such as garden waste services.
Using the automated feed, MyBins can identify which households are subscribed to paid-for collections and display those collections only to eligible residents. Households that are not subscribed simply won’t see those collection dates in their app.
This creates a seamless experience for residents while removing the need for manual management of subscriber data within MyBins.
Simple to Implement
To make implementation straightforward, MyBins provides a comprehensive technical specification outlining the required API feed format and integration process.
Our team will work closely with your authority and software providers to assist with setup, testing and implementation, ensuring the transition is as smooth as possible.
Whether you choose to continue using manual CSV imports or take advantage of the new automated integration, the MyBins platform offers the flexibility to fit your existing systems while making future data management faster, simpler and more reliable.
Looking Ahead
This latest enhancement is another example of MyBins’ ongoing commitment to helping local authorities deliver smarter digital waste services.
By reducing administration, improving data accuracy and supporting advanced services such as permit-based collections, the September 2026 update provides another practical way for councils to maximise the value of the MyBins platform while delivering an even better experience for residents.
